Communications Internship
The Communications Intern at Ohio Right to Life (ORTL) will have the opportunity to use their skill set to help promote and advance the mission of ORTL, throughout the state of Ohio. While at ORTL, the Communications Intern will assist with the writing, editing, publishing and promoting of all internal and external communications developed within the Public Relations and Communications department. Communications Interns should possess a strong background in writing and communications, as well as some experience in multimedia, web authoring and graphic design. Experience in using Adobe InDesign and graphic design programs is a plus but not required. Film majors and those experienced in video editing are encouraged to apply.
Interns will also have the chance to learn different talking points on life issues and should feel comfortable in sharing ORTL’s mission with a variety of audiences throughout the internship. All applicants must be college students, and Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Advertising and Graphic Design majors are encouraged to apply. Interns must provide their own transportation and are encouraged, but not required, to provide their own laptops while working in the office.
Some of the responsibilities for the Communications Intern include:
- Filming interviews, editing videos, updating multimedia on our websites
- Editing internal and external communications projects
- Designing and laying out publications and web projects
- Creating Press Release and Letter to the Editor templates
- Updating and maintaining news release archives on the computer server, on our website and in paper files
- Helping ORTL maintain a strong social networking presence by utilizing social networking applications like Facebook and Twitter
- Updating content on the ORTL website
- Drafting and sending bi-weekly e-blasts
- Researching prospective media outlets and tracking points of contact
- Researching advertising rates and project costs
- Establishing connections and scheduling meetings with local media
- Assisting ORTL with special projects as needed, including donor events and conferences
- Some administrative duties as needed
