Striking at the heart of Roe

On January 22, 2017, our country will mark 44 years since the U.S. Supreme Court issued Roe v. Wade. But to the ire of abortion advocates nationwide, the glory days of Roe are in great peril.

Just two weeks ago, pro-life Governor John Kasich signed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, prohibiting abortion when babies can feel pain, or at 20 weeks gestation. Now, left-wing media outlets are running scared of Ohio Right to Life’s legislative strategy to reverse Roe v. Wade and end abortion.

The radically pro-abortion site Right Wing Watch recently published an article entitled: “The Anti-Choice Bill John Kasich Just Signed Is Even More Dangerous Than The ‘Heartbeat Bill’ He Vetoed.”

According to Right Wing Watch, “While Kasich’s decision to sign the 20-week ban while vetoing the six-week ban may make him seem like a relative moderate on abortion rights, he is anything but. In fact, the 20-week ban that Kasich did sign is a much bigger threat to legal abortion than was the ‘heartbeat bill’ that he vetoed. This is because while the ‘heartbeat bill’ would almost certainly have been struck down in the courts as unconstitutional, the 20-week ban is part of a careful strategy by anti-choice groups to strike at the heart of Roe v. Wade.”

More recently, an abortion advocate writing in TIME Magazine warned readers, “Don’t Be Fooled by John Kasich’s Dangerous New Abortion Ban.” Citing our new Pain-Capable law, she said, “Ohio Governor John Kasich has put the U.S. one step closer to overturning Roe v. Wade.

Meanwhile, the pro-abortion site Vox is wringing their hands as well: “John Kasich signed a ban on abortion in Ohio after 20 weeks, with almost no exceptions….He also vetoed a six-week ban — but the 20-week ban is a bigger threat to Roe v. Wade and reproductive rights.”

Twenty-sixteen has been a big year for Ohio Right to Life and the broader pro-life movement. Earlier this year, Governor Kasich signed our law de-funding Planned Parenthood of more than one million taxpayer dollars, and in November, the abortion lobby suffered another epic loss, this time to President-Elect Donald J. Trump and pro-life candidates nationwide. Now, as Right Wing Watch notes, Ohio Right to Life has lobbed another strike against a fatal Court decision that has haunted our country for the last 44 years.

Now, as we look to 2017, our team has more plans in the works—plans that surely won’t please the pro-abortion elites any more than our Pain-Capable law. To the chagrin of the abortion industry, Ohio Right to Life won’t stop at “pain,” and we won’t stop at “heartbeat.” Our team won’t stop until Roe is reversed and the scourge of abortion is ended in the United States.
