He’s back at it, folks. Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown is on Twitter, defending his recent vote against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. For context, the Born-Alive Act was introduced by Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) after the horrifying comments that we heard from Virginia Governor Ralph Northam when he said:
“If a mother is in labor…the infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and mother.”
On Tuesday, the Heartbeat Bill had its second hearing in the Ohio Senate Health, Human Services, and Medicaid Committee. Over 20 people testified in favor of the Heartbeat Bill, including five doctors and multiple nurses. We also had several women who had abortions themselves and wanted to speak out about their experiences.
Yesterday, our team sat in on the press conference announcing the Ohio Senate's legislative priorities for 2019-2020. Senate President Larry Obhof said this, "As a conservative caucus, we will be focusing on legislation that protects innocent human life." He announced that both the Human Heartbeat Protection Act (S.B. 23) and the Unborn Child Dignity Act (S.B. 27) were priorities, along with other Ohio Right to Life sponsored legislation.
