(WASHINGTON, DC) – The Supreme Court of the United States upheld the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as “Obamacare”. The ruling declares as constitutional the entire Affordable Care Act, proclaiming that the government’s ability to mandate healthcare coverage is legitimate within the U.S. Constitution. The Court’s complex decision, still unwinding to the public, upholds the individual mandate by redefining it as a tax.

“The United States Supreme Court dealt a stunning blow, not just to pro-lifers, but to Americans overall by upholding the largest expansion of socialized healthcare and abortion our nation has ever seen,” said Mike Gonidakis, President of Ohio Right to Life. “President Obama is out of touch with the nation’s people and out of touch with the nation’s values. We’ve learned today that the only way to overturn Obamacare is to elect a pro-life president. Are we ready to elect leaders who are willing to fight socialized healthcare and the expansion of abortion?”

Chief Justice Roberts joined the four liberal Justices and served as the swing vote in the 5-4 ruling. This Supreme Court decision demonstrates that the way for Americans to combat Obama’s pro-abortion agenda is not to depend on the courts, but rather to exercise their right to vote.

Ohio’s pro-life leaders such as Attorney General Mike DeWine and U.S. House Speaker John Boehner have committed to challenge the law with determination.

Ohio Right to Life encourages all pro-life Ohioans to respond proactively to today’s sobering Supreme Court ruling by continuing to build momentum for this November’s elections.
