COLUMBUS, Ohio- Today, multiple pro-abortion groups gathered at the Ohio Statehouse to demand all-access abortion and to protest the pro-life protections passed in Ohio and Texas. Ohio Right to Life, along with Representative Jena Powell, responded to the event which began at 12:30 PM.

“It is heartbreaking that these women believe their liberation must be bought with the blood of their children,” said Allie Frazier, Director of Communications at Ohio Right to Life. “The pro-life movement rejects the idea that women must choose between themselves and their babies. We deserve better than the abortion industry’s lies that we are not enough. Women are strong, and we don’t need abortion to prove it.”

The protest, which is being held on “International Safe Abortion Day,” is being spearheaded by local pro-abortion groups including those who were charged after disrupting a church service in January and yelling obscenities. The protestors were later charged with Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Trespassing. Families and young children were present during the incident.

“We believe that life begins at fertilization,” said Representative Jena Powell, founder of Ohio’s Pro-Life Caucus. “No child deserves to be killed by abortion. I am working hard to defend life here in Ohio and ensure that every child is protected.”

The majority of abortions in Ohio are committed by chemical abortion, which is comprised of a two-pill regimen of mifepristone and misoprostol. The FDA recorded nearly 4,200 adverse events from mifepristone between 2012 and 2018 and over 1,000 of those cases required hospitalization. Since the abortion pill regimen was first introduced in the U.S. in 2000, over 20 women have died from chemical abortion complications.

“Abortion is not safe, either for the women who are forever changed by it or for their babies whose lives are brutally taken by it,” said Frazier. “Abortion exploits women and kills their children. It has no place in a free and fair society. As a woman, I am committed to ensuring that the violence of abortion is not perpetuated against women in crisis and their defenseless children.”

Ohio Right to Life will continue to work alongside pro-life, pro-woman champions in Ohio’s Pro-Life Caucus like Representative Jena Powell to empower women and save babies.
