NEW POLL: 75% of Americans Believe Abortion Should Be Banned at Three Months

Every January, the Knights of Columbus sponsor a Marist Poll to get a reading on how American’s feel about abortion and abortion policy. This poll should encourage all pro-lifers, especially as we head into March for Life!

A few key findings:

  • 59% of Americans support banning abortions after 20 weeks, except to save the life of the mother.
  • 62% of Americans agree that abortions committed because of a Down syndrome diagnosis should be banned.
  • 75% of Americans believe abortion should be banned at three months (12 weeks).

These findings are significant. In Ohio, we passed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which protects pain-capable babies from the violence of abortion. This law went into effect in Ohio in 2017. Also in 2017, we passed the Down Syndrome Non-Discrimination Act which would ban abortions when there is a prenatal Down syndrome diagnosis.

Finally, 75% of Americans believe abortion should be banned at three months. This is a hugely important statistic to keep in mind. The Human Heartbeat Protection Act will protect babies when a heartbeat is detected. We know that, at the latest, that is 12 weeks. Not only do we have science on our side, but it would seem that the court of public opinion agrees too! These statistics remind us that all the progress we’ve seen in Ohio is not only saving lives, but is also strongly backed by American public opinion.

Watch in the next couple weeks for an email detailing our 2019-2020 legislative agenda, coming soon! We’re excited to unveil to you what we will be pursuing along with the Human Heartbeat Protection Act during this General Assembly.
