Pro-Life Update: Pregnancy Centers Awarded Funds, Abortion Clinic Loses Variance

This Week’s Pro-Life Update

The fight for life continues! Check out some of this week’s pro-life developments.

$6 million awarded to life-affirming organizations through the Ohio Parenting and Pregnancy Program!

State grant funds totaling $6 million were recently awarded to pregnancy help centers and other life-affirming organizations through the Ohio Parenting and Pregnancy Program! These funds, secured last year in Ohio’s biennial operating budget by Ohio Right to Life’s advocacy efforts, allow pregnancy centers to further support women and babies by meeting material needs, providing parenting resources, and enabling them to expand their reach to even more women and families. Last fall, we held a specialized training for pregnancy centers to help them navigate the grant application process. These funds are earmarked for life-affirming organizations, and many of those awarded attended our training. We applaud our Governor Mike DeWine for his truly pro-life commitment to help Ohio families thrive!

Ohio Department of Health rescinds variance of last Cincinnati abortion facility

Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton has revoked the variance of Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio’s Cincinnati facility due to its failure to meet state safety requirements. Ohio law requires all ambulatory surgical facilities to secure either a written transfer agreement with a local hospital or a variance, which includes an agreement with four doctors who have admitting privileges at local hospitals. These safety measures help ensure that women can be transferred to hospitals in case of medical emergencies. Planned Parenthood’s Cincinnati location recently lost one of the doctors who signed on to their variance, prompting the department to take action. Dr. Acton has warned the facility that their operating  license is now in danger of being revoked.

Planned Parenthood’s annual report: healthcare is down, abortions are up

This week, Planned Parenthood released their 2018-2019 annual report. The 32-page document lists statistics including the number of abortions they committed and amount of taxpayer dollars that fund their abortion business. Shockingly, even though abortions nationally have fallen to their lowest numbers since Roe vs. Wade was decided, Planned Parenthood performed over 340,000 abortions from 2018-2019- an increase of over 20,000 since last year’s report. Also disturbing is the amount of government dollars Planned Parenthood received last year- over $615 million. This accounts for 37% of Planned Parenthood’s annual revenue, and is all from government grants and reimbursements- a higher percentage than any other single revenue stream in their report. Thankfully, Ohio’s law defunding planned parenthood in our state has been in effect since last year. It is our hope that other states will follow suit and stop Planned Parenthood from receiving taxpayer dollars to fund their abortion business.
